Research Paper Proposal

Myomectomy vs Hysterectomy, which surgical approach is better for uterine fibroids.

Uterine health is one of the most important topics to women in our society. Women enjoy being informed about their health in order to manage it correctly. They do all sorts of things from getting a pap smear once a year to undergoing different procedures if they find something abnormal, for example getting a myomectomy or a hysterectomy to remove fibroids from the uterus. In this paper we will be focusing on investigating which surgical approach is better to remove uterine fibroids.

Fibroids are benign tumors that grow in the uterus and uterine wall. As for my knowledge of a myomectomy and a Hysterectomy surgical procedure I’ve collected some information. A myomectomy is done when surgeons only remove fibroids they find in the uterus and they determine this by considering the size and where the fibroid is located. On the other hand a hysterectomy is a more complex surgery because it involves removing the entire uterus and this will also depend on the size and placement of the fibroid, but generally is preferable when the fibroids are bigger. Both surgeries can be done laparoscopically and open abdomen. When it comes to what I still have to research, I’ve been collecting information on which procedure is a better approach to treat these women who suffer from this condition and which will have a better result long-term.
